Theatre is Life

Since September 2005, due to the grants of the “Public Dialogues and Developments Foundation” and under the joint financial support of the “French-Armenian Developments Foundation” (FADF) NGO “Havat” of mothers of hard gearing children has been implementing the “Theatre is Life…” 8 moths’ coalition project. The project is being implemented in conjunction with “Kamq ev Korov” NGO of young people with hearing defects. For more details click here.

The goal of the project is to raise public awareness on the problems and potentials of individuals with hearing problems and present their gains achieved as a result of their socialization. The program is compatible with the development of the governmental policy aimed towards the solution of the problems of individuals with disabilities by integrating them into society. We also plan to hold campaigns in Yerevan and in 6 regions of Armenia devoted to the problems of the children and adults with hearing impairments (detection of hearing defects, early interventions, i. e. supplying such individuals with hearing aids, developing orals speech, education in comprehensive schools, or alternatively, in trainings on the sign language as a necessary tool for communication in the educational process). For each region the campaign envisages the following steps:

• Organizing workshops with the representatives of primary healthcare services (junior-senior medical workers), distributing 2 types of booklets.
• Organizing workshops for the parents, presenting a film that shows the achievements of deaf children and young people.
• Sowing a musical performance with the participation of the beneficiaries from “Kamq ev Korov” NGO of young people with hearing impairments and … NGOs. The performance will be organized by the joint efforts of the French Armenia development Foundation. The joint musical with the combination of the sign language performed by the beneficiaries of the 2 NGOs will be a peculiar component of the campaign that already presents a fair example of integration.

The campaign will be held during the months of April-December. During the fist 3 months of the program we plan to perform preparatory activities for the campaign (replication of materials, publication of booklets and presentation of the performance).
