December 7, 2009 Mr. Iida, First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Armenia as a witness on behalf of the Japanese Embassy and Mrs. Tamara Manukyan, Co-chair of the NGO "Havat" signed a Grant Contract launching a new project titled "Project for Improving Newborn Hearing Examination and Developing Education for Children with Hearing Impairment in Yerevan".
The goal of the project is to provide
OAE devices which have been purchased step by step will be delivered among maternity houses. Already two specialists from two maternity hospitals passed training courses to get capacity to work on that equipment. We are going to pass them two OAE devices. Every month at those maternity hospitals up to 500 newborns will be observed. Detected newborns with hearing loss will be under supervision of specialists from medical centers. At those centers they will get appropriate help, such as hearing aids and lessons of speech- therapists. It will improve their normal speech development and give them opportunity to be integrated at ordinary schools and society. Next two months we are going to organize training of another two specialists from other maternity hospitals. |
