“Day-Care Development Center for Children with Hearing Impairments”

The goal of the program is the integration of children with hearing impairments to social life through early and comprehensive socialization and development.

The objective of the program is to establish a day-care development center for the children with hearing impairments, on the bases of the integration center of the “Integration Center of Deaf Children” operating in ARABKIR joint medical complex. The center will become an establishment ensuring conditions of harmonious life for the children and their parents.

The children who are beneficiaries of the organization, their parents, the spacialists from Yerevan and the marzes who work with children with hearing impairments benefit from the following services in the center:

  • 40 children (aged 1-7) with serious hearing impairments receive trainings on oral speech development by speech therapists. No pre-school institution currently provides such kind of professional assistance based on the child’s needs.
  • Musical and rhythmic trainings are organized for the above-mentioned 40 children, as these are important for the development of the child’s ear for music, ability of distinguishing the sounds, sense of rhythm and practical skills.
  • Psychological assistance is provided to the 40 children and their parents.
  • The parents of all the children attending the center are involved in the a parental school. They are periodically informed of issues related to the child’s hearing problem (educational, healthcare, psychological, issues regarding parental behavior); besides, literature and video materials regarding the problem are distributed among the parents.   • 28 specialists from Yerevan and the marzes (mainly young specialists who need practical work experience) are trained as speech therapists. For more details click here
 
 

 

  • Periodical consultations are provided by the speech therapists for the 30 detected children (aged 0-3) prior to the development of oral speech.
  • The parents of the above-mentioned 30 children are informed of the hearing problmes of their chilf, relevant literature and video materials are diistributed by the parental school and if necessary, psychological aid is provided.
  • 15 deaf children and 15 adults (parents of deaf children and specialists working with deaf children) are trained on the Sign Language.

 

  • 10 deaf children acquire basic computer skills, 10 children acuire knowledge on computer design.
